The Mysterious Disappearance of Mr Darcy Kelly Miller

The Mysterious Disappearance of Mr Darcy is the latest addition to Kelly Miller’s Regency Romance Pride and Prejudice variations. They are always popular, and this book will be a definite to add to existing fans’ libraries and to make new fans.

In this tale, Elizabeth and Darcy are happily married and Elizabeth is being introduced to the (dubious) joys of the London season and members of the ton.

She’s doing fine, until Darcy disappears, leading to a wave of gossip and innuendo, some of which is a bit too close to the bone for comfort. Distraught, suddenly uncertain of the truth of Darcy’s love for her, Elizabeth determines to get to the bottom of the matter and to carry on with head held high.

Ms Miller does a wonderful job playing with the familiar characters, in a way I’m sure Ms Austen would have found delightful and amusing. The thoroughly engaging story keeps you locked to the pages as you scratch your head to try and make sense of it all. New characters make their way into Elizabeth’s life, and household, and she must navigate seeming friendships which may not be to her advantage, and deal strongly with scheming family members who definitely don’t have her interests at heart.

I very much enjoyed Elizabeth’s character – beset by completely normal doubts but not giving in to them. No fainting heroine this! Darcy is, well, just yummy, and how could we possibly believe ill of him? Yet, evidence is there …

A short and most enjoyable read, just the thing to take you away from real life and plunge you into the splendour and politics of Regency gentry.
