Lazy Alone Different: use these three words

Freddy hated being different. It was bad enough having the only white skin among them all – skin which actually gleamed with a pale luminescence to make sure he was really seen – but his long nose, too, was unlike anyone else’s. His hair was blue, straight, falling in curls – curls! – to his hips. He wished it was brown like the others, and not so, well, pretty!

He supposed he could try and find someone to help him do something about it, although what they could do, he had no idea. Besides, while he complained bitterly, he was really too lazy to sort it out. Instead, he spent all his time alone.

Except when a virgin wanted him to lay his head in her lap. He didn’t mind that too much. The virgins seemed to like his gleaming skin, which they stroked with soft fingers, and they adored his curly blue hair which they plaited with colourful ribbons.

Those were the times Freddy was happy, not minding being different. Also, the relief of being able to lay down his great heavy silver horn, easing the burden on his too-long head, was wonderful. He could forget he even had one, for a while.
