Welcome back to the daily prompts. The third for the week.
A breath upon rising
Anna swims from sleep’s depths, brain and limbs sluggish. A golden summer dawn edges the heavy curtains, shooing night’s shadows into their daytime retreats. Her eyes blink open into the warmth of a pillow, and she lifts her head to seek the flowered wall beyond the bedside table.
A book, crumpled tissues, an empty wine glass. She frowns at the glass, momentarily, before the frown clears and her lips lift in a smile. She stills her need to turn, to confirm the lush memories tangling in her mind.
First, relish the moment, capture the essence of contentment like a deep breath upon rising, then see what turning brings.
A gentle touch on her bare shoulder, a good morning murmured into her neck, answers her postponed question.

A breath upon rising
She inhales long and slow
A moment to calm
Before the day glow
A breath upon rising
Is her moment of bliss
Before the alarm calls
A noice she won’t miss
A breath upon rising
Is her favourite time
To gather her thoughts
To let her day shine
A breath upon rising
Fills her with peace
An inhale An exhale
Her troubles will cease
This is lovely Bea – thanks so much for sharing it! That moment between sleeping and waking is really captured … yet that intriguing last line suggests more.
Thank you Cheryl, I tried to capture the sleepy state just before waking…
And the time in her day when there’s nothing but peace.
Calm before the daily storm!
And you did just that.
