It’s said that opposites attract

Today’s writing prompt and my response.

Day five’s prompt. Use the prompts however you like, one at a time, poetry or prose; or pen a short story over several of them.
It’s said that opposites attract
a frozen hand meeting a fiery hand

She was fire. He had always known it. Dangerous, harmful, lethal. He mocked as others burned, scorned their seared hearts as they limped away. His own heart was defended by a fortress of ice, the layers strengthened with self assurances of invulnerability.

A heart is one thing. But a soul is something else.

She allowed him his certainty, fed on other prey. Let him believe his self delusions.

Until a tongue of flame licked out with the fatal accuracy of a hunting insect, charring a sizzling hole in the frozen wall of his defences.

And here he was, skewered on the heat of her passion.
