It was very satisfying yesterday to open my emails to see this from the Historical Writers Association:
Congratulations on your Longlisting for the DDS/HWA Short Story Competition
A few years ago I had a story long listed in the HWA’s Dorothy Dunnett Short Story Competition, and in 2023 made the shortlist and was in their anthology with my tale based on Ellen Hayward, the ‘witch’ of Cinderford – the inspiration for River Witch, Book One in The Wise Women series.
My Wise Women series has stood me in good stead again, with my entry, ‘Letters to Mam’, this year using research for World War One in Book Three, The Gift of Belonging.
Here’s the announcement. Huge thanks to the organisers and the judges and congrats to all the long listed authors.
Fingers crossed for the next round
