Handling feedback

Some excellent advice from my great friend Emma Lombard, in this guest blog of hers.

While we love it when critiquers (professional or otherwise) say, Wow this is the best thing I’ve read since Jane Austen… it’s rarely likely that this will be helpful (or true). So cherish the feedback, big and small, take a deep breath, ponder and make your own decisions on what makes sense.

I generally find that most feedback rings bells – often it’s to do with things I myself wasn’t sure about, so having the doubt confirmed – and, bonus, a possible solution – is great.

Key to remember: it’s the words on the page people are critting, not YOU. It doesn’t mean they think you’re a bad person, or even a bad writer.

So, here is the link to Emma’s practical post.
